A/E Design Services for LAWA to Meet New FAA Security Requirements

Client: Los Angeles World Airports

Prime: Gensler (via Arup)

Driven by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act of 2001, the project assignments included the accommodation of enhanced TSA procedures and staff, decreasing vulnerability of public areas, incorporation of new access control technologies, and providing for 100% explosive screening of baggage by Dec. 31, 2002 in a dozen terminals in LAX and ONT.

Creelman supported the LAX Terminal Security Functional Analysis Planning through preparation of a Technology Terrain Map providing an overview of applicable security-focused and related technologies used in both the aviation and other industries. We assessed the feasibility of implementing these new and emerging access control technologies, such as biometrics, in terms of cost, accuracy, and barriers to adoption.
